Pathogen Genomics Funders Forum
A Pathogen Genomics Community
The Pathogen Genomics Funders Forum (PGFF) brings together organizations that are funding pathogen genomics activities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Members include foundations, governments, international health organizations, and other funders that are currently supporting pathogen genomics work in LMICs or who are contemplating becoming involved in this field.
Bringing People Together & Sharing Knowledge
Through convening and education, PGFF creates spaces for collaboration, dialogue, and growth.
Convening
Members meet virtually quarterly and in person once a year.
Education
The forum works with the World Health Organization’s International Pathogen Surveillance Network to offer a webinar series covering topics of interest in the field of pathogen genomics. The target audience for these webinars includes health policy makers and funders.
Objectives of the Forum
To provide a forum for communication and networking among funders
To reduce redundancy, duplication and fragmentation in pathogen genomics investments
To identify and address important “orphan issues” that impact pathogen genomics investments and identify potential solutions
To promote standards and quality in pathogen genomics
To define and address relevant policy considerations
To provide education and updates to funders in relevant technological areas
PGFF is not a consolidator of funding and is not itself a funder of pathogen genomics work. The members all independently manage their respective grant portfolios.
Why Pathogen Genomics?
Genomic sequencing is transforming public health by making it faster and more precise to detect, track, and treat infectious diseases. From tuberculosis to malaria, its growing use in low- and middle-income countries shows great promise for improving care and strengthening outbreak response.
